Our annual overnight sleepover at Kopernik Observatory will be Friday, February 13th. There will be a meet&greet dinner at 5:30 PM and the classroom programs will begin at 6:00 PM. After the classroom programs, we will be observing the stars and planets using the Observatory telescopes (weather permitting), enjoying a late evening snack, and watching a movie. There will be a light breakfast in the morning.
Overnight gear list:
- Sleeping bag or 2 blankets
- Pillow
- Sleeping pad/extra blankets
- Hat
- Pajamas appropriate for Cub overnight
- Toothbrush/paste
- Small First Aid Kit
- Cub Scout book
- NO ELECTRONICS - leave your DS, iPods, mp3 players at home
- Money for gift shop (parents' discretion)
Directions to Kopernik Observatory: Follow Route 17 West to Route 26 South (Exit 67s). Proceed 5 miles and turn right at Glenwood Road (slightly beyond Vestal Center - note the green observatory sign). Take the first left onto Underwood Road and proceed 1.8 miles up the hill. Kopernik Observatory will be visible soon on the left
Note: depending on road conditions, carpooling with 4-wheel/all-wheel drive vehicles is encouraged. The road up to the Observatory can be tricky in snowy/icy conditions.
