Lumberjack Day

Info from BSA Camp Tuscarora Ranger Mike Gebhard:

Its that time again!  Lumberjack Day is Saturday, September 22nd.  There is a lot to do, and jobs are available for cubs on up!  What we need to do is this:

1. Store/stack wood at the Winter Units & Nature Lodge
2. Split/stack the pile that is sitting it the parking lot (its already cut up)
3. Move cut up wood from near the Bear Caves to the shop lot.  Some of these pieces need to be cut, but most are OK as is.

The National Guard is currently moving wood as we "speak" - I doubt they will get it all moved, so we may have to do some of that as well.

As for log splitters; we have our brand new camp splitter.  Bob Smith from T162 is bring his which runs off the tractor PTO.  I have reserved two log splitters from Taylor Rental in Binghamton.  If you own a splitter and wish to bring to camp, that would be great - please let me know if you can do this.  If you are able to transport a splitter from Taylor Rental that would be a huge help.  It can prob be picked up the night before, but need to be returned by 4pm saturday.  A 2" ball is required.  If we can get two personal splitters to camp...we can forgo the rentals (save time, money, gas, etc).  Chainsaws are welcome - gas/oil provided - please bring your safety gear!  It could save your life...trust me on this one!

Lunch will be provided!  Lumberjack patches available for those who want them.  Remember you need to participate in camp work projects to get summer camp discounts.  Please arrange camping thru the Scout Office, or just come for the day.

Everyone like to be warm in winter (and everyone loves a fire) - but it takes hard to work, so...step right up!
